Where does the Erie's water come from?


These three major sources were supplemented by many others along the Erie's length.


These three rivers certainly aren't the only sources feeding the Erie's needs, but they dramatize that the western section had an abundant supply that could keep up even with high traffic and in driest of summers, while in the Adirondack region, the much smaller flow of the Mohawk (along with other small feeder streams) had to supply the locks in BOTH directions off the Rome Summit.
