Bill describes a blowout that shut down one section of the canal for much of 1927. He also tells how George Pullman (inventor of the Pullman railroad car) got his start moving buildings for the 1850s canal enlargement in the region west of Rochester.

Wanted for future programs:  We've been on the lookout for some time now for sites of remains of the original Erie Canal (completed in 1825 and measuring 4' deep and 40' wide).  We're also hoping to find a working model of the kind of stump puller that was used in the construction of the original; and to hear from someone who's knowledgeable about the specifics of the steels and powders used in the Deep Cut at Lockport in 1825.
